Slurriy valves are designed for both high and low cycle rates. Slurries may vary a great deal in density, particle size and hardness, corrosiveness and many other factors. Copeland has ball valves for all of these. See some of the examples below.
Copeland's BVC Series, high cycle valves that are cost effective but utilize stainless metal seats overlayed with Copeland's in-house applied line of HVOF and Plasma overlays. These coatings have gained wide acceptance because of their success in preventing wear and errosion in silica (sand) applications, superheated steam and acid applications. The ball is allowed to "float" between the seats but only a few thousandths of an inch protecting the valve against lock-ups when materials enter the body cavity and become packed inside.
A forged body; hard, wear resistant overlays; a splined shaft and Inconel components helped this valve extend it's life far beyond its expected life when first installed. After 10 years of high cycle service in abrasive and thick slurries it was time to be refurbished. Refurbishment was accomplished in less than a week.
Three piece, forged bodies with special liners of tungsten carbide, chromide or other abrasive materials are available for high velocity flow and in-line repairable solutions.

Copeland BV and PV Series are often selected for high temperature, high cycle operations involving high velocity particulate flow. The Relief Cut may be incorporated into the design to relieve pressure more quickly and to avoid damage by hard metal particles to the leading edge of the ball. See our video for a full presentation.
Slurry valves often involve more than just protection against an abrasive particle stream. Acids, caustics, extreme pressures and temperatures, hich cycle rates and gummy or fine particles can all play a part in how well a slurry valve functions.
